The Winner

A special jury, chaired by Elisabetta Fabri, President and CEO of Starhotels, selected the winning work "Amphora" from the shortlist of 10 finalist pieces. The work was created by designer and textile artist Cecilia Rinaldi (Atelier Nuanda, Bologna).

“Amphora” is a work that tells the story of a distant time from the Roman era and the regional traditions of an ancient popular culture. Its slim, circular shape echoes the traditional design that allowed for easy handling and practical transportation of liquids. The lid fits into the opening like a stopper. At the top, an aluminum handle facilitates grip, and coral connecting elements decorate the handle. Surrounding the annular surface, which is made with a rolled aluminum tubular structure, is hand-woven leather mesh using the Legàmi technique, which combines the use of needles with leather thread. The resulting texture and materiality create a unique, durable fabric that is extremely flexible and elastic for both use and durability.

Cecilia Rinaldi, born in 1992, is a designer and textile artist who has developed her craft over time in close relationship with her surroundings, which influence her path. She resides in Bologna, where she founded her atelier, Atelier Nuanda, in 2021, blending tradition and craftsmanship. Atelier Nuanda emerged from a spontaneous realization after extensive experience with major companies in the textile sector, as a space outside the realm of conventional design where she creates projects deeply infused with cultural traditions and the essence of hidden details that inspire them. In 2022, the atelier made its debut at the Fuori Salone in Milan and at the Lake Como Design Festival, in collaboration with other artisanal entities.
