A small door opens into a courtyard, then an unexpectedly large cellar. This is the ceramics workshop of Egidio Milesi, an expert craftsman who has been creating shapes using different techniques, including lathe, plate, casting and columbine, since the 1980s.
As the hundreds of objects lined up on the shelves – bowls, vases, plates, bottles, frames, revolving centrepieces – attest, his creativity is frenetic. An excellent craftsman, he works for private clients as well as architects and designers. At the far end of the room are four high-temperature ovens and many items waiting to be fired.
Milesi models and decorates them one by one. His pieces are made of terracotta, majolica, stoneware and porcelain. After moulding them using various techniques, the artist finishes them with colours ranging from multi-coloured engobe to brushstrokes on the lathe, from glossy glaze to matt glaze and even simple firing.
