Caterina Crepax was born in Milan in 1964. A child of the arts, she grew up in an environment rich in stimulation, imagination and creativity, which was fundamental to her training and development. After graduating in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano, she worked as an interior designer, while also working in the fields of graphics, exhibition and stage design.
But her passion is paper. From her father, the famous Guido Crepax, she inherited great manual dexterity and imagination – so much so that she is able to transform a sheet of paper into a real three-dimensional construction. She loves the ironic play of metamorphosis that transforms a simple, two-dimensional sheet of paper into a precious "fabric", into a dress with surprising details that you would like to wear, into an object that you would like to own.
Caterina's works are entirely handcrafted. Each piece is conceived, designed and produced entirely by hand, with endlessly repeated cuts, folds, pleats, puffs and inlays becoming rich and complex surfaces. Oriental papers and fine papers are blended with everyday papers to create highly original creations that are somewhere between artwork and design.
